The Outdoors

can be enjoyed at many of the Buddhist temples described above as well as some of the  “animal attractions.” It is possible to arrange treks through the interior of the island through travel agents.

The most popular single outdoor attraction on the island are the phallic shaped Hin Tai and Hin Yai, (grandmother and grandfather) rocks, located at the southern end of  Lamai Beach.

According to legend, it was here that two lovcrs, doomed by their families to be forever apart, threw themselves into the sea. The rocks are easily accessible. A good market is nearby.

Also popular are the waterfalls.  Na Muang 1 and Na Muang 2 are the most frequently visited. They are located near each other and are  off of the ring road about 10 kilometers south of  Nathon. .. During rainy season both are very impressive, with Na Muang1 being 18 meters high and Na Muang 2 over 80 meters high.  Pools of water form below them in which people can swim. Na Muang1 may be reached by car and Na Muang2 requires a 30 minute walk.

Another popular though less visited waterfall is Hin Lad, which is just south of Nathon. It may be  reached by a difficult two kilomter trek from the main road. In rainy season a pool forms suitable for swimming.
