Animal Related
Animal-related activities are to be found at almost all major Thai tourist areas. They can be interesting if one hasn’t seen them before or if one is very interested in animals.
 Buffalo fighting is a Ko Samui tradition and is held on special holidays such as Songkran. It involves buffalos fighting each other and usually does not result in serious injury. There are about half a dozen rings or “buffaloe fighting stadiums” scattered around the island. These are siimply cleared areas which have become traditional places to have contests. There is usually no admission charge. |
 Crocodile Farm is l ocated behind the airport The main attraction is two death defying performances daily. The farm maintains a zoo containing many non-threatening animals, including monkeys. Admission is 300 baht.

 Nan Tian Butterfly Garden, located on the southern part of the island, is an enclosed tropical park on the side of a steep hill. It has collections of live and dead insects and butterflies along with many beehives. It has some hillside observatories which are said to give excellent views of the coast. Admission is 300 baht.

 Paradise Park Farm is located on Ko Samui’s highest mountain and surrounded by jungle, gardens, streams and waterfalls. It maintains a bird zoo and a petting zoo. It offers excellent views in all directions. Admission is steep…almost 1000 baht for adults and 600 baht for children.

 Samui Monkey Theater, between Bophut Beach and Chaweng Beach, has three performances daily. Audience members are able to participate. Elephants also perform.

Snake Farm, is located in,Talingnam, which is south of Nathon. It is home to several interesting types of snakes. There are two performance shows daily, the main stars being cobras and pythons. It is said that centipede, scorpion and cockfights are held there. Admission is 300 baht. |
Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo is located at the southern end of Hua Thanon, a Muslim fishing village, on the southeast corner of the island. It has a pretty good selection of fish, including several varieties of shark. According to promotional literature, it is possible to get into cages with the tigers and young leopards. Admission begins at 400 baht. |
